Why I started the program
The Future Female Leaders Program came from my desire to provide women the level of support that I wish I’d had as a young professional progressing through my career.
When I graduated from business school in 1984, 50% of my graduating class was female, yet according to the 2021 Osler report of diversity in Canadian Public Companies, women only hold 23.4% of board seats and only 4.8% of CEOs are women.
I believe that if young women were given tools to build and sustain self-confidence and resilience earlier in their career, we could close the gender gap in leadership faster, more effectively, and sustainably.
What I want for you and all young women is to support you in understanding yourself, how you think, how you feel, how you process the world, and how you nurture self-confidence. I learned from a brilliant psychologist years ago, after I’d left the corporate world, that self-confidence is an inside game; you can still perform at a high level and achieve amazing results when your inner self-confidence is misaligned to your outside achievements, but it takes a huge toll on you.
With that in mind, I want to provide you with a set of tools and techniques that you can use throughout your career, and life for a more fulfilling and balanced experience.
My hope is that you and the next generation of young women will face fewer barriers to advancing to the most influential levels of leadership, that you will be equipped to reach your goals with ease, that you will seek support when needed, and that you will set the path of your career on your terms.
About Future Female Leaders
The program is grounded in the principles of emotional intelligence and is designed to support you in:
Understanding and nurturing self-confidence and resilience
Understanding your thinking process and how to direct thoughts
Understanding your emotions, expanding emotional skills, and managing emotional energy
Developing awareness of beliefs, assumptions, and brain filters; and developing skills to create change
Learning fundamental coaching skills to enable peer coaching
Learning how to set and achieve goals for personal development and embrace personal growth positively and enthusiastically
Increasing ability to seek out and process developmental feedback and overcome assumptions about areas needing improvement
Identifying your unique talents, strengths, and values and creating plans to nurture and develop each
Identifying blind spots and innate weaknesses and learning ways to mitigate, delegate, or cope so you can focus on developing strengths
Understanding the concept of Imposter Syndrome and identifying if and/or how it shows up for you, and how to work through it
Creating a development plan to address leadership strengths & gaps
Learning process-based decision making
Exploring and coaching on leadership and personal development topics identified by the group (e.g. skill in giving feedback, leading teams, communicating, managing change, etc.)
