Working Through Fear
Working through feelings of fear requires us to connect with what we are thinking, usually an emotion or emotional feeling is triggered by our thinking and we aren't always aware of each thought racing through our head.
Monday, I was feeling a lot of anxiousness, it was the first day back at work after a lovely week long vacation. During the vacation I was able to disconnect, slow down, and do a lot of reading. So when Monday morning arrived all of a sudden I was experiencing uneasiness but not about anything specifically. Nothing new had happened.
Fortunately I had my Monday morning meditation with My ParaVita and was able to settle my mind and calm my thinking. After the meditation I explored my thoughts and where the worry was coming from. It was mostly about not feeling in control, not being certain about where things stood with client work, my schedule and the week ahead, all triggered by having a good long break. Interestingly, just writing this is bringing back those feelings - that is how our brain works unfortunately.
Once I understood the thinking that was triggering my feelings of anxiousness, I shifted my thoughts towards things I know to be true about myself - I summoned my inner cheerleader in a way, that part of me that knows the truth about me. I shifted to: "I have done this hundreds of times before", "Everything is fine, I would have heard otherwise", "I am good at this, I am really good at this because I've got a lot of experience of doing it successfully" and "I know exactly what needs to be done."
I sat down, calmed myself, looked at my calendar for the day and week - got oriented, prioritized my day and started working. The day still came at me fast, but I felt much stronger and empowered once I knew what was behind my feeling of anxiousness. Once I got going, I fell into the same old groove again.
